Outboad Marathon Nationals

This part of Crooked River known as Hay Lake, is a straight stretch of channel with marsh land on both sides. Before the river was dredged this area would flood into a small lake. You can pull some walleye out of here using a shallow crank bait along the sides. The center is only six ft. deep and plenty of mud. Try the pond on the east side with a canoe and some top water bait early morning for bass or a spinner bait for afternoon pike.
The stretch of Crooked River north of hay lake is one of the more scenic areas of the waterway. Small streams wind down through the tall cedars and white birch to the rivers edge. I see many deer and other creatures along this stretch. Several small sand bars are formed along the river by the small creeks that feed into the waterway. I often stop at one to relax and enjoy the beauty.
I also like to photograph the Outboard Races using the sand bars for an outstanding view.
