ATV Trail Riding From Watersmeet in Michigan's Western U.P. 2008By DMG
Pg. 1
It was the end of May in the western upper peninsula and the weather was perfect. With a
morning chill in the air we headed out from Vacationland Resort under a clear blue sky.
Duane, shown on the right, and I ride have ridden many times together. Gary, shown to the left,
is a first timer. Ty, from Burt Lake Marina was kind enough to let us use his new 650 Can Am for this trip.
Yep, that's me in the middle. There are two ways to get to the main ORV route from here. The quickest way is to ride north on the shoulder
of Thousand Island Lake Road into Watersmeet.
Deciding to take the longer route around we headed west on Roddis Road, over the bridge between Thousand Island and
Lindsley Lakes. We followed Cisco Lake Road until passing over the dam on the far north end. All part of the ATV route.
From there you can keep going north and hit the trail. We turned west on Cloverleaf Road and worked slowy to the northwest
enjoying the ride and the wildlife of the Ottawa National Forest, video left. The north end of FSR 7100 runs into US-2.
You cross the ATV route just before US-2. There we headed west past the little train engine.
Here you can turn north and ride the ATV route up the east side of Lake Gogebic. That route is mostly the shoulder of a black top road.
We kept heading west on trail 2 toward Marenisco.
