Well, here we are, another snowmobile season come & gone already. The grooming part of the season is "officially" over but we've still got people UP here riding the 2 tracks and playing out in the plains. The weather is favoring us diehards with clear blue skies and cool temps today, keeping plenty of snow on the ground and sleds out in the woods. The trail base is dwindling slightly in spots along the lakeshore, but is still holding solid with a crusty layer of snow averaging 5 inches on top and a very icy bottom underneath. The off trail stuff is a whole different story for those of you thinking about heading this way for those last rides. Boondocking and playing in the plains is your best bet through the month of April. That's where I hope to be this weekend. Spring riding can be a lot of fun if you know where to find the best snow....and we have it! Of course, you have to trailer out to the staging areas & ride from there. They can be found at the Camp Newton crossing & the Adams Trail along M-77, approx 10 miles south of Grand Marais, the Visitor's Center parking lot, just a few miles west of Grand Marais along H-58, and close to the School Forest, about the same distance east along H-58. Jeanette & I are running our end of the season special until April 15th. Stay with us in either of our motels for 2 consecutive nights for only $39.95/night. Please note that this offer only applies to our motels at Hilltop and downtown at Beach Park, not the cabins. They are also discounted, but unfortunately, even Captain Kirk from Priceline couldn't go that low. The 2 bedroom cabins are currently $95.00/night and the newer 3 bedroom cabins are discounted to $125.00/night with a 2 night minimum. Just give us a call for details at either location, (906) 494-2331 or (906) 494-2681 & come on UP! This may be my last post for snowmobiling this season unless we get another 6 to 8 inches of fresh snow before my birthday. I just wanted to say "Thanks" again to all of you who have helped make this season one of the best, in spite of it all. Thank you from all of us at Hilltop Cabins and the Beach Park Motel. We sincerely appreciated having you as our guests and look forward to seeing you again soon. I'll be updating the "Fishing and ATV" reports periodically throughout the spring and summer, so keep checking back & stay in touch. Until then, God Bless & remember, don't drink & ride. Take care, John
