By the time we hit the Coalwood Trail temps were in the upper 30's
and we all stopped to cool off and remove a few layers of clothes.
The Coalwood Grade is wide and although it had a few moguls it was a fun
run. The long winding corners were easy to slide and so far we had seen
very few sleds out. We took our first gas stop in Wetmore just north off the trail
on a short connecter. We had just about 100 miles in. We were not sure the station
in Shingleton would be open and some of us did not have enough fuel to reach Seney, the next
gas stop. Fueled up we were back on trail 8 headed east to Shingleton where the trail
headed north.

Just north of Shingleton where the trail runs east down Metser Road
we ran into a logging truck headed west. With no room on the trail,
and the truck not looking to stop, I had to jump the bank to the right.
Everyone followed as we ended up in waist high heavy snow! With no way
to turn around going forward, we all had to stop. With four sleds buried
it took a little time to turn them all and get back out. Just as I was
headed over the bank two sleds came by and I had to stop again, stuck in the bank.
Back on 8 headed east we had a great time on the groomed trails
the run through the snowbelt north of Seney. We made great time so we
played on the back roads and two tracks for awhile. Taking trail 43 south through
Seney we stopped for a break in the rolling hills. Steve wanted me to get a photo of
him making a jump over one of the hills. The jump was nice but the landing needed
a little work. It was getting late afternoon, so after we told each other a few more lies
we headed down 43 then east across Manistique Lake to our destination.
