I saw a lot of big eyes quickly turn to big smiles coming out of the mud!
One by one the machines slowly growled there way through the last big mud hole giving
encouragement to those aboard. Once through the mud, at the intersection of Webb Road,
a group break was in order. A lot of chatter about the mud run and statements like
"hope to see more of that" could be heard. Looks like it was the highlight so far!
You can see the action on the video below.
As the last group made the stop I scurried ahead catching up with the orange group
just before turning east on Clute Road. With the sun well up the trees showed off
the country side with a blaze of color. Without a doubt this is my favorite time to get out and ride.
Cool temps, warming sun, blue sky, beautiful color and no dust!
I could not have written a better script. I rode ahead of the orange group
to get where Mc Masters Creek crosses Clute Road. Yesterday John had taken out
part of the beaver dam built there flooding the road.
I figured the beavers would have it rebuilt better than ever by morning
and I was right. As I approached the creek I saw the pond had grown.
It now covered the road for about 100 yards. After making a splash I slowy
crossed with the water reaching my head lamps where the creek crossed the
road beneath the pond. At least I knew the bottom was hard so traction was fine.
After crossing I pulled to side and started to clean the water and mud off
my video camera. I entered the pond a bit fast while filming the wall of water
shooting up above my head. Didn't have the camera quite clean yet when the orange
group started to cross. I started filming anyway.
