As the riders pulled into the pond and the water rose higher many put
legs up on the front of their machines to keep the feet dry.
I think this was a first water crossing for some of the riders. Many most likely would have
avoided the crossing not knowing where the bottom was. A couple hunters in a truck
stopped on the far side between groups and started to back up. I motioned to them
they could make it across easy. They did slowly motor through and were glad they did
not have to turn around. By the time the last group approached I was ready with a clean
camera for the crossing.
After the run through the pond the roads remained lake free for the most part
the rest of the way east. Reaching the EL-BO Inn about noon I was surprised to see
the blue group was already done eating and about ready to head out. The girls at the Inn
did a great job and had everyone in and out with a hot lunch right on time.
The parking lot was packed with ATV's, ORV's RTV's, two up's and side by sides
of all makes and models. Just as many stories were being told as everyone
stretched their legs and tales a bit.
As the clouds thickened I
received a NOAA weather alert about a storm front now over lake Michigan.
We started to get the groups moving and were soon back on the route headed east
with all accounted for. I listened for weather updates and knew it would be close
for the last 2 groups.
