ATV Trail Ride From Crystal Falls Through Iron County 2007   By DMG     Pg. 6

Slowly working our way north toward Kenton we were staying just ahead of a storm front out of the southwest. I was in the eighties and very humid. It really felt like something was going to let lose today. Our next stop was Dumpy Falls on the Jumbo River, shown right. It's short walk from the parking area to a pretty cool two sided falls. Nice spot to take a break and take in the view. Back to the two tracks we were still seeing many whitetail deer out in the warm afternoon. We are always careful not to get to close, but if you keep moving slow they will usually just sit and watch you go by.

Our last stop before heading back south was Jumbo Falls just upstream on the same river, shown above. It's only 50 yards off the road and another nice place to stop. We left heading north up to trail #8, an old rail grade, to get over the rivers to the east before heading back south. Watching the sky as we neared Iron River a man in a pick up stopped to tell us there was a severe thunderstorm warning and suggested we take cover. Just as we pulled in for gas it let lose. Heavy rain with high winds and hail just pelted the area for about 15 minutes as we sat under the pump cover. We stayed behind the front all the way back to Crystal Falls. After the 170 miles we rode that day I was ready to load up the machine. It had been a great few days and I really like the area. The main trails were smooth and hard with plenty of diversions along the way. Gas and restaurants are easy to get to in any of the towns we passed. I would recommend the area trails for the rider that enjoys sightseeing on well maintained trails. You can ride from Wisconsin to the Keweenaw here.
Until next time, have fun, be safe. Dave G.
