The second day we were on the trail early headed up to
Craig Lake State Park
following the Nestoria Road west. It is a very scenic ride in the morning running through wetlands
and the deep woods with wonderful views passing over rivers and around lakes.
We saw many white tail deer along the road as well as rabbits, pheasant, fox,
snakes and one gray wolf that ran across the road 20 feet in front of me.
I was impressed with the smooth ride the 4 wheel independent suspension
gave me over the rocky portions of the trail. It's a big improvement over the straight
axles. I was really starting to enjoy this machine as the morning moved on.
Last winter we had to squeeze under a fallen tree on this road.
You can see where it has now been cleared. We worked our way slowly west
to the ORV route that starts on Herman Nestoria Road just north of US-41.
It's a nice winding well maintained gravel road up until you
reach Herman to the northwest where it is paved. At this point we headed to L'anse
for lunch and fuel. There was one specific route you had to follow laid out in
the Marquette County ATV map Duane had brought along, and we stuck to it.
Now in Baraga County the rules were more restrictive as to where you can ride.
Always check the local laws before you ride.
I will be putting in detailed maps for our members
of all the routes we've traveled, and will travel.
