We saw many deer along the trail as we rode. We stopped at one of the clear cuts to watch
a couple of them work through the new growth.
After 10 miles running southeast the trail runs close to the Brule River, the Wisconsin,
Michigan boarder. Just past the Riley Creek Bridge, shown right, we took Carney Dam Road
about 3/4 of a mile south, ending at a public access site.
Here we took a short brake for refreshments and a leg stretch. While we were there
one of the families staying at Chippewa Resort next to us stopped in
to do a little fishing. It is a great spot to bring the kids down.
A couple miles further east we came to the intersection of the Northwestern Trail and
#113 that heads back North to Crystal Falls. It was early so we decided to
keep going southeast on Northwestern about 12 miles to Florence Wisconsin.
There we found easy access to gas and lunch right on the trail.
From Florence there are also some choice ATV routes to ride if you
wanted to ride on. That would be another time for us. After a long
lunch break we took our time back up to Crystal Falls. We explored and two tracks
and climbed a few power line hills along the way. For us it was a short
ride, about 70 miles for the loop. This loop would however would make a great day ride
for the average family. Nothing tough to ride through, and an easy trail to follow.
