Just down the road from the Thunder Bowl is the Thunder Lake Store
where you can gas up and wash the dust down. I had a great Philly
for lunch as we relaxed a bit before the crew had to head back
to the shop. After getting back to where I was staying in Wetmore,
I hopped on the trail 419 to Munising. As I stopped to check the map
another rider stopped. It turned out to be a Munising Police
officer, John Nelson. He was very helpful and showed me the best way
to get through town and north up to Lake Superior. I got on trail 419
just outside of Munising and followed it up to Christmas where CH-589,
a designated ORV route, runs north next to Foggy's
The road ends at a beautiful rock cove just west of five mile point
on Lake Superior, photos above.
The crisp chill of autumn was in the air but the view of lake Superior
and Grand Island to the east was a warm relaxing view. I sat out on the rocks
and watched until the sun melted into the water. With the sun down and the temperature falling
I headed back and stopped in at Foggy's Steak House. I had a fairly good appetite
after the long day on the trail and the food was great! I had a chance to talk to
the owner and his son while I was there about the upcoming snowmobile season.
I was thinking I may be back here this winter. Good people, stop in the next time you
go through Christmas, you will enjoy.
