Leaving Indian Lake I hopped on snowmobile trail 7 about one mile
west on Langes Bay boat launch. It guided me northwest through a mix
of green pines dotted with painted hardwoods. Getting off the snowmobile trail
on Country Highway 440 I rode west to Bass lake then up Crawford Road. It was all good!
Sliding around mud puddles though yellow tunnels and sandy banked corners
I wandered the many ribbons that cut through the forest.
Headed north on CH-2218 I noticed a porcupine waiting for me to pass
just as a sudden rain started to pound the trail. I took refuge under a large pine tree
where Country Highway 198A meets Doe Lake Rd.
Putting on a rain suit I checked the GPS and found the Buckhorn Resort
and Restaurant was just a few miles away. I decided to head over for lunch
and wait out the rain. I arrived just in time as the sprinkles turned into
a downpour! It was a nice dry cozy place to eat overlooking Hovey Lake.
I had a nice quiet lunch gazing out over the lake. As I slowly sipped my last
cup of coffee the rain settled down to a few streaks on the window. I talked to
a couple riding ATV's in from Au Train before packing up the rain gear and filling
my tank. Although they had a gas pump on site there was no gas.
You can't always count on some of the gas stops that are marked on the trail map
so I always recommend carrying spare gas. The rain had stopped and I headed out north past
Three Lakes to meet up with the Coalwood Grade.
