It was a cold start my last day as I worked my way north before sunup.
First over to Shingleton than H-15 north to H-58 past past Melstrand
where I stopped to watch the sun rise. As the tops of the trees started to light up
I took a short cut off from H-58 to the Beaver Basin Overlook. Here you get
a great view of the Beaver Lake
valley and Lake Superior in the distance, photo below left.
The fog still hung in the valley as the sun rose and I watched the tree tops move into the light.
Back on H-58 I followed it north until I hit the Twelve Mile Beach
area along the lake. Very nice ride with some great views of Lake Superior.
From the beach I had to head back south due to H-58 being closed for paving
between here and Grand Marais. I looped down to Hurricane River Trail which is
part of Snowmobile Trail 8.
Now heading east as I reached the Hurricane Creek area
there were quite a few wet spots due to the heavy rains the past few weeks. Nothing
the Can-Am couldn't handle. Heading up Rhody Truck Trail it did dry up and the trail
was blanketed with bright colored leaves. It was turning into a very nice day and
I started removing a few layers as the temperature steadily climbed.
Cruising past Grand Sable Lake
around one that afternoon I was just two miles from Grand Marais and my lunch break.
